Training

"I have done what I have been trained to do, and in the doing I have trained for the next time."

From "Report From Engine Co. 82" by Dennis Smith, downplaying his own heroics on a fire call.

April 29, 2007 Mask Confidence, Video , Pics . On April 29, 2007, the line officers of the East Brunswick Independent Fire Company ran a monthly training session.  The topic was Mask Confidence.  A maze was erected in an available bay.  Members, with hoods over their masks to block out vision, were to navigate the maze in teams of two, negotiate a flight of stairs to a lower level, search for a victim, practice "Buddy Breathing" and exit.

March 22, 2009 - Pump Ops - Multiple agencies pump operations training - drafting and relay pumping.

March 29, 2009 - Extrication Training - The East Brunswick Independent Fire Company hosted a Vehicle Extrication Training on March 9th, 23rd (lecture sessions) and 29th (hands on), 2009.  We have recently identified an influx of new members, an increase in extrication assignments and a deficiency in up to date training.  Therefore, the officer staff contacted First Response Training LLC (FRT), located in Wall, NJ, to put together a basic vehicle extrication program for our responders.  FRT was able to identify the area, traffic flow, types of extrication assignments EBIFC has faced in the past and created a 16 hour basic extrication program tailored to our needs.  In addition, FRT assembled a team of instructors from various areas of New Jersey and from FDNY.  This wide range of instructor knowledge afforded the members of EBIFC with high quality teaching and different ways for the responder to look at each situation.  Each one of us was given an opportunity to stabilize a vehicle whether it was on all four wheels, on its side, or its roof.  Additionally, each responder was able to train with all the equipment from Rescue 804 and Engine 806, thus becoming comfortable with our own tools that will be utilized on actual responses.
