Rudy's Blog
April 21, 2007
Well, the website site is finally up and running….Great job. I am hoping that this new site will not only be helpful to all those fire buffs and fellow firefighters out there; but will also be informative and help to educate those who visit our site who really aren’t aware of the volunteer firefighter and what it is that we do and what we represent. With all that is going on in the world today, the War in Iraq to Imus, from the tragedy at Virginia Tech, to the recent flooding situation in the New Jersey area, there is one thing that will ultimately continue on……the volunteer.
I think I will start this blog by giving you my explanation of who we are and what and why we do what we do………………………………….
As volunteer’s we take pride in serving our community and those in need wherever they may be. Despite political views, personality conflicts, race, creed, knowledge, or ability, the one most important thing that we all share as volunteers is the willingness to set aside our families, careers, and our own lives to simply be there when we are needed. We are not super heros as those portrayed in movies and on television, we are simply the 16 year old high school student to the retiree, and everything in between. We are someone’s husband, wife, mother, father, brother or sister. We ask for nothing for what we do; but take pride in a job done well. When you need us, we are there, no matter what day or time it is……..we will come.
We pride ourselves in our professionalism, our shared knowledge, our constant training; yet we are not without emotion. Affliction, empathy, frustration, and disappointment are just a few emotions that affect us daily. We will miss our child’s first birthday, our anniversary dinner, or holiday time with our families, because we are always there. That’s something not many people can say about themselves.
So for all those who visit us here at our website, take a minute the next time you see a volunteer firefighter to wonder what they gave up of themselves to save your neighbors home from that fire, or removed that child from the car wreck so that he/she could receive prompt medical attention.
And for all those volunteer firefighters who visit, remember, you are special!!!!
Because regardless of anything……you will always be there. It’s not something that can be taught, or given to you, but it is something that you are born with and can never be taken away from you.
