Jackson Mills Fire Company, Station 54, Wetdown

August 16, 2008

All fire companies, departments and individual firefighters, whether vollies or career, across town or across the world, share a certain sense of kinship, brotherhood and affinity.  Some, due to either geographic proximity or other factors, are closer to some than others and are held in a special bond.  Such is the relationship between East Brunswick Independent Fire Company and Jackson Mills Fire Company Station 54.  The common bond is Richard "Dallas" Dallassandro.  After fifteen years with EBIFC, Rich moved to Jackson, NJ and joined JMFC Station 54.  While quickly moving through the ranks at Station 54, Rich maintained contact and close relationship with EBIFC.  Recently, JMFC faced an issue that required outside help.  When a longtime member past away, they did not have a proper apparatus to facilitate the transport of the casket at the funeral procession.  Rich turned to EBIFC.  Without hesitation or even pondering the question, EBIFC responded positively and loaned them our Engine 805.  Members of Station 54 were deeply touched by our gesture.

On August 16, 2008, members of EBIFC, along with Snorkel 809 and the 1940 Ward LaFrance went down to Jackson to participate in their Wetdown.  Being feted was their new apparatus - a NYC style Seagrave rescue truck with a 100 ft straight stick.

The weather was great.  Food - plenty and most delicious.  Drink - ice cold and quenching.  Music -  rocking by The Saloonatics.  Our hosts - most gracious.

A great time was had by all.
